Jambo! We arrived in Kenya last Sunday after a little bit of drama getting to the airport and on to our plane. Our bus encountered a 10 mile back up due to a fatal accident on the highway and we were literally suck in the same place for over an hour. We finally arrived at Heathrow and rushed to get checked in and through security, only to find that our flight had been delayed over an hour due to all the security threats that were occurring in the UK that day (you all at home probably know more about his than we do!).
Muya's wife, 9 year old daughter, Mbula, and the couple I am staying with, Rose and Justus Musau, were there waiting for us at the airport. We enjoyed a fresh glass of mango juice while waiting for Muya's plane to arrive (which was also delayed) and got to get to know each other.
We spent much of the rest of the day celebrating Muya's return at his house with many of his family and friends and got to try a lot of Kenyan food including nyama choma (roasted meat), ugali (a starchy cake like dish, very traditional), as well as vegetables, rice, and boiled meat. It was quite a feast! Lindsey and I then headed back to our respective houses - which are both very posh with hot water, flushing toilets, electricity and even cable TV!! We both feel very lucky to be staying with such nice families in such nice houses (the one I'm staying in is pictured above).
Monday morning we left for the Masai Mari to begin our 5 day Safari, it was a great week and we got to see a lot of wildlife. More on that later, internet access is fairly limited and we have to head out now, but I will hopefully have more to come soon!
Kwaheri,
Corynne
