Microsats in Cardiff

So we have been working in the lab full time since Monday now, and it is going well. We started off slow since Muya didn't know how much we knew, but are flying thru things a lot faster now. Basically lots of PCR, gels, and they use an ABI to look at their microsats. Once we started looking at microsat results yesterday I felt more comfortable. I am not that familiar with the protocols and techniques since I have only worked on Dr. Warren's protocols in her lab, but I am familiar with the results, so it was nice to start looking at peaks again. Corynne knows a lot more then me about lab techniques which is great since I get lots of little tips and tricks to keep things looking good.

Last night we went to the Cardiff University bar with Muya for a couple drinks, which was nice. We learned a lot about him and his family and can't wait to meet them all in Kenya. We also talked about lots of philisophical things, which was fun. I think my mother will find it funny that I am finally posting on here and it is about alcohol again, seems like all I do on this trip is drink, but we did have a couple days off once we got here!

Our hostel is really great overall, it is quiet and starting to feel like home for me, but one problem that keeps occuring is that they run out of toilet paper quickly.

I have been trying to run every other day in Cardiff, which has happened, but is not exactly pleasant. Cardiff is not designed for running, lots of stopping and starting at intersections, and not many places to run further then 3 miles. I like Bute Park, but even if I run the perimeter it is only 2.5 miles. And I have yet to see other people out running when I am in the morning either, I do feel like I stand out a little.

We have the day off tomorrow to tour Cardiff an do some laundry, and then on Saturday we are working on a day trip to Swansea or somewhere with hiking along the coast.
